Is there a timeframe is which you are required to declare contract specs, sign and actively roster a free agent signing? I did not see anything in the rules about this and was curious what the reasoning behind this is? Would this be something to consider for the future?
Thanks. Johnny

We do have a general requirement to complete FA signings and such w/in 72 hours of auction win though we’ve been moderately lenient about exact timings, especially for non-contending teams during low activity times. There’s also the usual allowance for official legal completion that are pending other publicly known/expected transactions becoming official (that free up cash or roster spots) — and yes, details should still be committed accordingly while awaiting other pending transactions.
It’s under rule 3.7 (re: Rostering) in the big, primary rules post. There are also additional details in another related addendum post (re: cases where players are somehow left unsigned for longer than specified under 3.7).
Also, the Rostering section 3 (of that big, primary rules post) speaks to active roster requirements that we haven’t really enforced in a long while (since switching from CBS to Fantrax) that we might want to reconsider re: some teams that might try (a bit too much) to tank late in the season for better MiLB Picks... though it hadn’t been too problematic so far...

Thanks for the response and clarification. It is good information to know moving forward that there is some leniency since I would have guessed that delaying to complete a signing is essentially just an easy way to circumvent any possible salary cap penalty. See as how there is a rule stating you can't exceed the salary cap at any point.
