I'm not seeing any indication of that. Unless somebody can dig up another trade the Rays made to deal away the Pirates' 1st, we only have a record of that pick traded to the Rays back in March last year.

The Rays did previously deal their own original 1st to the A's before acquiring that Pirates pick though.

There should be no confusion. I’ve spoken to the Rays and A’s earlier to clarify this, but I’ll put the explanation here as well for the rest of the league.

The wording in that trade does leave open the interpretation of a conditional pick. However, we don’t allow those kind of stipulations in trades in this league. The League Office would have to keep up with all the possible permutations out there if we were to allow conditional trades and we simply don’t have the time or energy to do that.

When trades are made, the LO views them from your assets at the time of trade. If two owners want to have a handshake agreement on something conditional, they are more than welcome, but the LO will not be able to enforce anything.

For this trade in question, the Rays highest 1st round pick at the time was their own, so that’s what was traded. They acquired the Pirates 1st later after this trade was completed.
