All,
After doing some reviewing of how the new GM free drop rule works (and had worked in the past), the LO would like to proposal that we lift the no rebid restriction on such free drops and simply have new GMs wait the normal wait period before being allowed to rebid on such players.
In the past, the only reason the LO added that restriction was to prevent a new replacement GM from gaining too much of an advantage in the auctioning of a free dropped, quality player over the rest of the league. Afterall, if the free drop happens during the regular season, most teams would probably not have more than a few million in cap space reserved, if that, and the new GM could easily effectively cut the salary of a highly paid, solid player in 1/2 (or less) and likely w/ more favorable terms than before.
However, in practice, the LO currently feels that the normal wait period for rebidding on waived players should probably suffice, especially if we will extend that wait period to be longer than 14 days as proposed in the other rule change poll.
This would simplify the rules and should still prevent a situation where the free dropping GM would gain too much of an advantage.
Please also note that in light of the current situation for the recently joined new GMs, we propose that this change should take effect immediately *and* retroactively to cover their free dropped players as well. There is way more than enough $$$ flowing in the market at this point in the preseason (as would normally be the case) so that it should not be a real problem when preseason FA begins in February after their normal wait period expires.
Please do vote in the poll asap so we can get this taken care of accordingly. Since league activity is back to full swing now, we will probably only keep this poll open for a couple days. And the LO will amend the new GM free drop rule accordingly if there are no significant objections.
EDIT: Updated w/ emphasis to be clear about this applying to the new GMs.
