All,
The LO would like to proposal a change to the required wait period for player drops.
This used to be 14 days, but that really seems quite short in exchange for the $$$ savings benefit, especially since we have relaxed the rules some over the years regarding continued obligations and how that can be reduced.
The LO is proposing that we extend that period to 30 days effective immediately (as of closing of this poll). We have also included an option for 21 days instead (for a compromise) -- and you may also vote for upto 2 choices, particularly if you don't mind either extension.
Please note that this should probably not impact most player drops that happen before the tags deadline since such dropped players usually wouldn't get auctioned until further into the preseason FA period, which would probably be just beyond a 30-day wait (and almost certainly a 21-day wait).
Please vote in the poll asap so we can get this taken care of for 2011. Since league activity is back to full swing now, we will probably only keep this poll open for a couple days. And the LO will amend the rules accordingly if there are no significant objections.
Thanks.

I really don't feel strongly about it one or another so i'll go with the LO on this one. 30 days it is.

I'm not sure when FA period opens again but as long as I'm able to rebid on the players I recently dropped, I don't have a problem with extending the wait time. The only reason I mention this is because had I known I'd have to wait longer (and possibly past when FA opens again), I might not have made the drops.
As long as FA opens after February 6, I'll be happy, lol.

I guess we can always just grandfather the old wait period for player drops that happened before the decision is reached following the end of this poll.

I agree with this...not fair to apply the rule to people who did not know...

A couple points of clarification in case anyone's wondering:
* Players whose contracts (and protection period, if applicable) expired normally and would thus automatically become (unrestricted) FAs after the tags deadline do NOT fall under the waiting period rule.
* Protected players (originally signed as prospects) whose protection period has not yet expired (and would thus not automatically become FAs after the tags deadline) will be subjected to the waiting period rule as usual, if waived to FA.

Last call for player drops to be grandfathered into the old 14-day wait period before we finalize on this rule change tonight (probably around 9pm ET or so).
FYI, since we have near unanimous consensus support for extending the wait period *and* a good majority support (11 of 15) for the LO's original recommendation of the 30-day option, the plan will be to extend the wait period to 30 days for all future player drops.
All player drops made prior to finalization of the rule change (tonight) will be grandfathered w/ the previous 14-day wait period.
Thanks to all for checking and voting (and offering feedback)...

Sorry about the delay on finalizing this. Been a bit hectic around these parts...
Effective immediately, the rebidding wait period is now extended to 30 days for all future player drops, including free drops by new GMs.
As mentioned above, all player drops made prior to this point will be grandfathered w/ the previous 14-day wait period.
