What was your best move of the off-season? Best trade, best drop, best bid, best Major or Minor league pick, etc. To date, one month into the season, what do you see as the best thing you did to improve your team?
We'll see how things pan out through future years, and I think my best moves were:
1) Giving Brett Lawrie & Anthony Rizzo for Andre Ethier (aka: Triple Crown Candidate)
2) Three trades: ONE: giving Tommy Hunter & Zack Braddock for Cliff Lee & Peter Bourjos TWO: giving Cliff Lee for Max Scherzer, Mike Minor, & Edwin Encarnacion THREE: giving Mike Minor for Brandon Best.
Started with Hunter, Braddock Ended with Bourjos, Scherzer, Belt, Encarnacion
Dang, that is nice.
How about you?

I traded Peter Stastny, James Neal, Ales Hemsky, Michael Del Zotto and Nikolai Khabibulin for the Sedin twins. Then I picked up Matt Calvert, Mark Fayne and Jhonas Enroth on the waiver-wire.
SCORE!!
Still finished 4th.

Aye, season ain't over yet, and Ethier will come back to earth soon enough -- not that he's got enough of any of the 3 cats to ever come close to winning a Triple Crown of course... ;D

Well, I liked a lot of my moves, but I'm biased, right? The one that strangely worked out quite well I believe is trading prospect Chris Carter to the Giants for then potential free agent Chad Billingsley. On the surface it looks a bit ugly for the Royals, mainly because a Franchise tag had to be used as well. But I was tickled when Bills signed an extension before Opening Day. Sure, he got lit up in the first inning today, but I think he'll be a solid SP for the money down the road. Carter is still sort of a question mark really.

As most of us expected, Ethier did come back down to earth quickly enough (w/in a couple weeks of the OP) -- and is actually currently ever so slightly behind his career norms.
Anyhoo, still not sure what my best moves were during this past offseason, but maybe my general approach just doesn't lend itself to this kind of (relatively short term) analysis...

Interestingly, looks like Kemp has a real shot at the Triple Crown w/ 6 games to go -- Ethier was never a real candidate for that.
Kemp's only 1 HR behind Pujols and a few percentage points behind Braun and Reyes in AVG -- probably only needs to rack up a couple extra hits (more than Braun and Reyes) to catch them for AVG, if they all play the rest of the way.
So I guess here's the question then. Would *you* vote for Kemp to be NL MVP, if you had a ballot? If not Kemp, then who?

He's the NL MVP for me, without question. I think you can make a strong case for Kershaw as the Cy Young. Imagine if Dodgers players win both awards and they finish below .500.
I also think this thread shows why you shouldn't judge deals until after the season. I bet Tigers wishes he had Lawrie now.

Hahaha. Yeah, he really ripped me off in that Ethier for Rizzo and Lawrie deal, huh?

I wasn't poking fun at all. It may not have been this league or even baseball, but it was my best off-season move that year.
Still have the Sedins, still haven't won that league, but am currently leading it this season!
